Het laat zien dat hoefdieren de competitievoordelen van de boomzaailingen wijzigen. Beuken (<em>Fagus sylvatica<\/em>) en sparren (<em>Picea abies<\/em>) zijn de meest waargenomen soorten. De groei van de spar werd niet be\u00efnvloed door hoefdieren termwijl de groei van de beuk werd verminderd met 32%. De groei van haagbeuk (<em>Carpinus Betulus<\/em>), berk (<em>Betula<\/em> spp.), lijsterbes (<em>Sorbus aucuparia<\/em>) en eik (<em>Quercus<\/em> spp.) werd bij hoefdieren verhoudingsgewijs het meest verminderd (van 50% tot 100%). Aangezien de overlevingskans sterk verbonden is met de hoogte en de groeisnelheid van de zaailingen, veroorzaken hoefdieren daarom aanzienlijke problemen voor de diversificatie van bossen gezien ze een sterke invloed hebben op de groei van de belangrijkste soorten die in Walloni\u00eb voorkomen, met uitzondering van enkele van de meest voorkomende soorten die ook climaxsoorten zijn zoals sparren
